The Sinimäed area experienced severe military action, first in 1941 and again during the intense battles between February and August 1944. The museum presents the war from an Estonian perspective, helping visitors understand the complexity of the conflict and its impact on local communities. Opened in 2008 in a restored manor granary, the museum displays a rich collection of historical items, including weapons, uniforms, soldiers’ personal belongings, wartime photographs and propaganda materials. In addition to the exhibition, the museum offers guided tours, hiking and bus excursions, as well as educational programs that explore the history and memory of the war in the region. More than 700 years old, Hermann Castle in Narva has been ruled over by Danes, Germans, Swedes, and Russians through the centuries, but now finally belongs to Estonians.

It obtained its current appearance during the time of the Livonian Order from the 14th-16th centuries. Concerts and conferences take place in the castle’s magnificent vaulted knights’ meeting and banquet hall and also in the slightly smaller hall in the north wing, while the 51-meter-high Tall Hermann Tower offers views over Narva, the Kreenholm factory, and Ivangorod Fortress across the river in Russia. Narva Museum collects and showcases the history of the city and surrounding region and its architectural, cultural, and natural heritage.
