Green Habito annual conference 2023 took place in Tallinn, Estonia

Sillamäe Society For Child Welfare together with other members of Green Habito network and partners organised an international annual conference Green Habito 2023, which took place from 25-28th May 2023 in Tallinn, Estonia, where participants have discussed and importance of the engagement of civil society into the questions like circular economy and innovation, collaboration of the Civil society, government and business networks, what are the current consumption patterns and how we can integrate them into a sustainable lifestyle and finally to discover the role of civil society organizations in fighting for the green transition and sustainable development.

We are very grateful to the main funders of this conference such as the Estonian National Foundation of Civil Society, Nordic Council and British Council Estonia.

Thanks to their support, the CSOs representative, experts, business and governmental representatives were able to share their opinions, experiences and knowledge with the conference participants and share best practices on green transition and overconsumption topics. As a side-event, collaboration meetings led to the preparation of two development cooperation project proposals to be submitted under the Nordic Council and EU support programmes for 2023 – 2025.

“The Green Habito Network’s annual conference “Civil Society Ideas for a Sustainable Green Future for Europe” was a 3-day conference and annual meeting that brought together a unique network of European civil society organisations.
The main goal of the conference is to discuss the contribution of civil society and the promotion of cooperation with business and state sectors in meeting the goals of sustainable development, and to raise awareness of CSOs about sustainable lifestyles, environmental protection and circular economy and overconsumption, introducing good practices, innovative methodologies and existing solutions.

The conference included an intensive programme of keynote speeches, debates and workshops (where all stakeholders discussed the main issues and prepared their proposals to decision-makers and the funds) and discussions.

The conference underlined the important role of civil society in green transition and achievement of the UN’s development goals at the local level, and the need for civil society representatives to work together to achieve a green, socially sustainable and secure world. As a result of the conference we developed a joint Network statement “Tallinn Declaration on Social Transformation, Climate Change, and Environmental Protection”. Foreign experts had an opportunity to familiarise with the work of Estonian civil society NGOs and through discussion and debate shared their experience and vision on how to better stand up for their interests.
